The Dorcas Society is a non-denominational charitable, literary, social, historic nonprofit organization. It was founded by Kate Douglas Wiggin on November 23, 1897. It is named after Dorcas of the Bible who after being raised from the dead, by Peter, did charitable works, such as sewing coats and garments for the poor.
